Malta International Airport is situated between Luqa and Gudja and is the only airport that serves the Maltese Archipelago. The airport is located at the place of the former RAF Luqa. The buildings have been completely refurbished and the Malta International Airport became operational on the 25th of March 1992. This is why the airport is still called Luqa Airport by the locals. The airport is also called Valletta Airport. Malta Luqa Airport is located southwest of Valletta, the capital of Malta.

Malta Luqa’s Airport terminal includes passenger services and several retail services. There are airside and landside shops where you can pick up a variety of things. The air terminal also has several restaurants and cafes where you can sit back and enjoy a couple of snacks and a cup of hot coffee while waiting for your flight. Banking facilities are available at the airport which makes it convenient for travellers to change their currency while arriving into Malta or when leaving the country. Both fixed and mobile telephony services are available at the airport. The airport is also fully capable of assisting travellers with physical disabilities.

Drive to Luqa Village

Hire a car and drive around Malta. This will allow you to easily get around and explore the island at your own pace. There are several rental cars to choose from. You can get a map of Malta from the car rental agency and you can get into your car and head out and explore Malta. The Luqa village is a good place to start your tour of Malta. The village is like the gateway to the other Maltese Islands and the airport gets its name from this village. The village was almost destroyed during World War II. Fortunately, the two 15th Century churches in the village survived. You can visit St. Andrew’s parish church while you are here; the church contains the original altarpiece by Mattia Preti, the Calabrian Knight.

Rocca Piccola House

Built during the late 16thCentury, for an admiral and knight, Don Pietro La Rocca, this historic house Casa Rocca Piccola is one of the recommended places to visit in Malta. Casa Rocca Piccola has several tunnels and underground passages cut out of the rock. These tunnels and underground passages are over 400 years old. This is a public garden that offers a spectacular view of the Grand Harbour. This is the highest point of the city walls and is one of the popular tourist attractions in Malta. The Upper Barrakka Gardens are beautifully kept and is a great place to take some pictures. You will also be able to watch the cannons being fired at noon time from here. There is a cafe at the top where you can pick up a couple of snacks and drinks.

Diving is popular in Malta, and if you are here on holiday, you should head over to some of the diving spots and go diving. There are several operators who offer courses for beginners, so if this is your first time diving, you can take some lessons and get right into the water and enjoy sights you will not see anywhere else.
